Cost Effective Advanced Technology for Pain ManagementMINERAL WELLS, TEXAS, USA. Electromedical Products International, Inc. (EPI) has reduced the cost of its prescription technology for pain management in its newest product offering, the Alpha-Stim PPM (Personal Pain Manager), available August, 2003. Alpha-Stim technology has been proven effective in peer reviewed clinical studies published in medical journals over the past 22 years. Many people on fixed incomes or dependent on Medicare for reimbursement have not been able to afford this superior technology, until now. The Alpha-Stim PPM was developed specifically to address the needs of this important market and, though it does not include the convenient treatment options of probes and earclip electrodes for cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) to treat anxiety, depression, and insomnia, the waveform output by the device is exactly the same as with the Alpha-Stim 100 combined microcurrent and cranial electrotherapy stimulator and the Alpha-Stim SCS (Stress Control System) CES device. The new Alpha-Stim PPM uses AS-Trode™ self-adhesive silver electrode pads so the treatment is very easy for anyone to do at home for cumulative, long lasting results. It is extremely comfortable, usually causing no sensation at all, and comes with a full color poster of Alpha-Stim PPM original electrode placement protocols. There is only one control which turns the device on and adjusts the output intensity, it uses far less current and is therefore safer than other devices for pain control. The device has a built-in self-test of the circuitry and comes with a 5 year warranty. "We expect the market to expand with the addition of this important device since we can serve more people who suffer from acute, chronic and post-operative pain," says Richard Floyd, Vice President of Marketing for EPI. "While it doesn't have the multiple frequency settings, treatment accessories or timer settings found in the Alpha-Stim 100, we have kept cost to a minimum and ease of use to a maximum," he continues. The device retails for $395 which falls within Medicare reimbursement parameters for a two channel, four lead device. Physicians responding to a survey on a total of 500 patients reported that significant results of 25% or greater relief were seen in 90% of their patients suffering from pain. Self-reports by 1,949 patients who use Alpha-Stim technology were similar with 93% of the respondents reporting improvement in their overall pain, 95% with back pain, 94% with arthritis pain, and 100% with carpal tunnel syndrome.
