For more than 10 years, I have enjoyed using the Alpha-Stim 2000 TENS unit to help my patients experience relief from pain and stress-related symptoms. We also used the old portable Alpha-Stim unit, and although it was effective, it was large and cumbersome and not really portable. The new Alpha-Stim CS is compact, easy to use, and I think it is fantastic! We let patients with cranio-mandibular symptoms either rent or purchase the machine as an adjunct to other modalities with great success. We keep one at home to reduce stress, and I have found that I can reduce my own blood pressure 4-5 points or more in 15-20 minutes with the use of this machine

I mainly want to share with you my enthusiasm about the role that the Alpha-Stim CS plays for patients in the dental treatment environment. For several years, we used nitrous oxide/oxygen conscious sedation for nervous patients. With growing concerns about drugs and/or safety associated with nitrous oxide, we no longer have it available in our office. We have found that using the ear clip electrodes and the new Alpha-Stim CS allows patients to experience a level of relaxation during dental treatment as well as reduced fatigue after their dental visits. We introduce the machine in this way: "Since you will have your mouth open for such a long time, I'd  like to have you try this new "TENS" unit which uses a very mild stimulation on the earlobes that relaxes the muscles in the jaw, neck, and shoulders." After the patient has experienced the "tingle" on the earlobe(s), he/she can then adjust the level up or down for comfort and have a feeling of control. In addition, patients can choose from various cassette tapes to listen during treatment as well  as other relaxation techniques which add significantly to their comfort. Patients truly enjoy the relaxation, and our work is far more enjoyable. The new machine is the key here!
