I became familiar with micro electrical nerve  stimulation therapy through a clinic in Berkeley. I was involved in a bicycle crash in March, 1988, which resulted in a broken thumb, with lots of swelling and pain. The therapist attached the electrodes to the tip of the thumb which stuck out of the cast, and attached another to my arm, at the top of the cast, just below the elbow. The current reduced the swelling, which had not responded to ice and elevation. The orthopedist was concerned about the  associated pain due to the swelling, and I was very uncomfortable. The Myomatic reduced the swelling, healing proceeded, and the x-rays at the 6 or 8 week mark showed remarkable bone growth at the broken spot. The orthopedist was skeptical at first, but was delighted with the results on x-ray.

Since that time, I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, which bothers me most in my left knee. I had several surgeries on the left knee 25 years ago, and am now suffering predictable degeneration due to the lack of cartilage in the joint. The Alpha-Stim is giving me significant relief from aching pain, which increases my range of motion. In my work, I sometimes have to stand for several  hours on concrete floors in trade shows. I used the Alpha-Stim at the last one, and it really helped. I attach the electrodes on opposite sides of my knee, as well as one in front and behind the joint. I hooked the little box to my  waist, looped the wires under my skirt, and people thought I was wearing a beeper! Using microcurrent for long periods acts as a preventative for the pain I experience when I am on my legs for long periods. I often sleep with the  Alpha-Stim attached and wake up refreshed and limber.

I prefer using the Alpha-Stim for pain reduction to tolerable levels rather than taking the so many expensive anti-inflammatory drugs that have negative side effects. While I suffer from a progressive degenerative condition, the Alpha-Stim is helping me to live an active life nevertheless. The small size of this machine makes it very easy for me to use and carry with me - a distinct advantage for a girl on the go!
