In 1983 I was diagnosed with temporal mandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), after having experienced problems for years with migraine headaches, neck, shoulder and back aches and an extreme amount of pain in the jaw area. The popping and cracking noise accompanying the disorder was very loud and could be heard across the room. Each and every time I opened my mouth whether to eat, drink or speak, there would be a noise associated with it, sometimes it could be embarrassing, but always it was painful.

The 1983 examination determined that the small cartridge disc that is supposed to act as a cushion between the jaw joints was completely gone on the right side. The one on the left also showed a deterioration. I was told that the grinding and popping noise I was experiencing was due to the fact that bone was rubbing bone with each movement of my jaw. Surgery would be imminent.

I was told that I would require wearing two appliances (one for day and one for night time wear) along with braces to correct the bite problem and even after that, it was suggested that surgery would be imminent. For a mere $10,000, I could get fixed right up. Maybe.

I knew of people who had suffered with the disorder and also had the surgery performed. Their suggestion was to avoid surgery it at all costs. Since I didn't have the $10,000 for the recommended treatment, I opted to suffer. And suffer I did.

Over the next 15 years, I went through my day-to-day life with bouts of severe migraine headaches, partial loss of hearing, neck, shoulder and back pain.

I heard about the Alpha-Stim in 1996. I asked my current dentist to write a prescription for one. At the time, my dentist had heard about the Alpha-Stim, but had never seen it used for TMD. Simply put, the Alpha-Stim changed my life. My life since has been changed totally. The first time I used the device after being instructed on the proper protocol, I experienced a remarkable happening. A miracle as far as I was concerned. With just one treatment my pain subsided. I  thought I was crazy. The pain was there one minute and gone the next. I couldn't believe it. I was amazed. My dentist was also amazed. I was pain free for the first time in years. No headache and even more amazing, no popping or grinding when I opened my jaw. The silence was wonderful.

Now with regular treatments, which take only a couple of minutes, and following it with the CES treatment for 20 minutes, I can live my life normally. It's a new experience for me. One I am thrilled with.
